When I founded Crowdguard, the aim was simple: to help organisations protect people practically and proportionately. That principle still guides everything we do today.
As founder, I’m especially proud to lead a business in a sector where calm judgement, collaboration and practical leadership make a real difference every day.
For me, Crowdguard has always been about people first. Yes, we work in Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) and protective security, but at its heart, this business is about helping people feel safer in the spaces where they live, work and come together.
What Crowdguard means to me is doing things the right way, with integrity, professionalism, common sense, and real care for the people and places we support. We’ve built the company around a simple approach: Plan – Provide – Protect. That means understanding risk properly, recommending what’s proportionate, and delivering practical solutions that work in the real world.
The importance of our work is that it helps keep public spaces open, welcoming and operational, while reducing risk in a thoughtful and responsible way. Security is never about overstatement or one-size-fits-all measures. It’s about partnership, preparation and doing what’s appropriate for each environment.
Where Crowdguard Began
Crowdguard was founded with a clear belief: HVM should be delivered properly, with the right products, the right processes, and the right people behind them.
My long-standing connection with Ainscough Industrial Services gave me a close view of the standards expected in specialist installation environments. In that world, safe systems of work, competence and quality assurance aren’t optional, they are simply the baseline. Looking at the HVM sector through that lens, it became clear that while there was strong focus on the equipment itself, there was often less consistency around how solutions were planned, installed, documented and assured.
That gap became the foundation for Crowdguard.
From the outset, the goal was to strengthen standards and support organisations in implementing risk-led protection that stands up to scrutiny without unnecessary complexity or cost. We quickly recognised that effective HVM is not just about barriers, but about understanding vulnerabilities, operational realities and the people responsible for safety.
Planning became central to our approach, combining the right products and processes to reflect risk, operational needs and environment.
Where Crowdguard Is Today
Fast forward to today and Crowdguard has grown into a specialist partner trusted by venues, event organisers, local authorities and safety professionals across the UK. Our work now spans major events, public spaces and stadium environments, supporting organisations as they look to manage risk in a practical and proportionate way.
What makes me most proud isn’t just the growth of the company, but the culture we’ve built around it. Internally, we have a team of passionate professionals who care deeply about doing the job properly. Externally, we’ve built strong collaborations with partners across the safety, events and infrastructure sectors, working closely with these stakeholders to ensure solutions are both operationally practical and aligned with national guidance.
Those partnerships matter because protecting public spaces is never the responsibility of one organisation alone. It works best when expertise, operational insight and shared values come together. A recent example of this is our partnership with Audiebant, whose communication technology helps strengthen coordination and information sharing between teams during live operations, an important part of supporting calm, effective response when it matters most.
We’ve also been fortunate that through our work we’ve been able to support many charitable and community initiatives along the way. Being able to give something meaningful back has been an important part of our journey.
Looking Ahead
Looking to the future, one of the developments I’m particularly excited about is the official launch of Snapshot Live this April. This new quality assurance tool strengthens due diligence by providing time-stamped verification of installations, helping ensure HVM deployments are delivered as intended while giving teams clearer evidence and oversight.
For me, this sits squarely within the “Protect” element of our Plan – Provide – Protect approach, ensuring that once solutions are in place, they are installed, monitored and evidenced properly.
It’s a practical step forward in supporting the professionals who carry responsibility for public safety, particularly those working in operational environments where decisions need to be defensible and clearly documented.
Looking ahead, my focus remains the same as it was when Crowdguard started: raising standards in HVM, supporting the people responsible for safety, and helping organisations take proportionate steps that genuinely reduce risk.
Crowdguard will continue to evolve, through innovation, collaboration and continuous learning, but our core principles will never change.
