The NHS Nightingale Hospital in London at the ExCel Centre in the Docklands, has been built to care for patients suffering with Covid 19. This facility is the first of the NHS temporary hospitals set up by NHS England to help deal with the 2020 coronavirus pandemic in England.
Crowdguard – the provider and installer of the award-winning ATG Surface Guard, a British manufactured Hostile Vehicle Mitigation Barrier, is proud to protect NHS Nightingale at the Excel Ctr in London. Crowdguards sister company Ainscough Industrial Services have been installing the BOC Oxygen Vessels at the new hospital so were already familiar with this impressive project. Noticing the potential vulnerability for Vehicle attacks at the hospital Crowdguard contacted the security provider whom recognised that Surface Guard was the ideal pioneering HVM solution for this temporary hospital.
Surface Guard is an innovative, surface mounted, portable barrier system that protects crowds from vehicle attacks at events with no need for road fixings, allowing for secure installation on a multitude of terrains and ground conditions.
Crowdguard received the plan and within 36 hours full installation of some 40 metres of pedestrian permeable Surface Guard solution over 3 locations was successfully installed. Following deployment this readily developing hospital changed its requirements and although authorised vehicle access wasn’t initially required, it was later deemed necessary that access was required to support a temporary accommodation block. With Crowdguard having 7 branches throughout the UK and a local depot within London we were able to be back on site within a couple of hours of the phone call and remove part of the array to install an authorised Vehicle Access Unit within the largest 20 metre array at the front of the new hospital. This allowed no delays in the progress of the hospital which was so important for its continued development. With access to our own owned transport and teams of skilled operatives throughout the UK we are able to respond quickly end efficiently to any requirement in a timely manner.
“We are proud that through innovations such as Surface Guard we are at the forefront of meeting this modern-day challenge and support those charged with security at these temporary pop up hospitals, thereby mitigating the threat and ensuring that these hospitals, key workers and patients affected by Covid 19 are protected and less vulnerable to a vehicle attack.” Deborah Ainscough
The Surface Guard system:
- Has been tested twice to the IWA 14 impact test standard.
- Successfully stopped a 2,500kg vehicle travelling at 48 kph
- Successfully stopped a 7,200kg vehicle travelling at 32 kph
- Offers maximum functionality and peak performance with no compromise on aesthetics
Crowdguard’s deployment network is vast and meaning that local equipment, labour and transport is ready for rapid deployment due to branches in Glasgow, Wigan, Manchester, Rotherham, Washington, Birmingham, London and Bath.
