Paisley Halloween Festival
Ghoulish delights and Spooktacular displays, as Paisley turned Halloween into an artform
We worked with Renfrewshire Council last week to set up for the spectacular Paisley Halloween Festival, which ran on Friday 25th to Saturday 26th October. This year marked the festival’s 10th anniversary, and to celebrate, the much-loved parade returned for the first time since 2019!
With the expanded parade route now including Mill Street, we expected huge crowds to gather well before the 7 pm start, and we weren’t disappointed, as thousands descended on the city centre to celebrate an unforgettable Halloween weekend in Paisley.
An Operational Perspective
Our Operations Manager, Andy Ferris knows a thing or two about this festival, having organised our temporary HVM solutions for it last year.
Andy commented:
“It’s quite amazing – the performances, the atmosphere, and the number of people who come to Paisley City centre really surprised me. It’s like a winter Mardi Gras!”
“The key thing for us, is to ensure that we are providing the most appropriate, rated temporary HVM solutions, to keep the public safe from the threat of hostile vehicular incursions.”
“To do this, we have deployed 92 Husson H-Stop units and two complete stillages of Highway Care’s RB50 solution across 14 locations in the city centre”
“Six of these locations were staffed by Crowdguard operatives, with the remaining locations managed by stewards specifically trained by us for this event. All H-Stop locations were clearly defined and marked according to the assessment and plan.”
“Due to the changes in the format (with grandstand seating available for the first time), and parade route, this year we deployed our HVM solutions from 3pm. Then changing some of their locations at 6.30pm to allow for the parade, whilst other streets had a full lockdown from 3pm until the parade finished at 8pm, to protect the spectating crowds.”
“After that, at 9pm, we dismantled the installations to allow local traffic to flow freely again, and pop the kit back on the lorries”
“That’s one of the key benefits with the H-Stop and RB50 units – they are so versatile and easy to deploy, remove, and transport, and they offer a rated solution against hostile vehicular incursions – it’s a win-win all round!”
