In April 2025, Crowdguard partnered with renowned running event to provide bespoke protection solutions for the mini marathon and the main event – both taking place in the centre of London.
Working in collaboration with event organisers, counter terrorism police, traffic management and local authorities, Crowdguard delivered a comprehensive hostile vehicle mitigation strategy across key locations.
The Challenge
Ensuring the safety of participants, spectators, and staff.
The event attracted over 56 000 runners and over 800 000 spectators. An event of this magnitude required sophisticated and robust hostile vehicle mitigation (HVM) measures.
The task involved securing start and finish zones, road course, congregation areas and maintaining ease of access for authorised vehicles and emergency services.
The Solution
Extensive risk assessments were carried out prior to the event to determine the specific requirements, and to ensure that the strategy employed was both proportional and appropriate.
On-site installations:
- ARX Stopper barriers – installed at one location within VADS (Vehicle Attack Delay Standards) to reinforce security at a high-risk access location
- Husson H Stop HVM barriers – installed across 24 separate locations covering approximately 330 metres of event perimeter to manage authorised vehicle access and high level of pedestrian permeability where roads needed to be closed quickly and then reopened and returned to normalcy following the road closure being lifted
The Crowdguard team handled the installation, management, and removal of the systems in accordance with event schedules, providing seamless integration with wider security operations.
