We have been back in Edinburgh over the last few days, helping The City of Edinburgh Council prepare for their Winter Events.

The Edinburgh Winter Events transforms the beautiful city centre with festive fun for all the family, including traditional Christmas Markets, funfair rides, spectacular live outdoor events, delicious food and drink, plus so much more.

Following on from our work in August for the Fringe Festival, we knew the key access points and junctions that were the main traffic thoroughfares, as well as those that attracted high footfall. As part of our partnership with the council, we conducted another Threat Vulnerability and Risk Assessment, as the main focal areas of the Winter Events were slightly different from those in the summer – and Edinburgh in the winter is a very different proposition, as you’ll see from the image below!

We have deployed ATG Surface Guard at key junctions and locations in the City, alongside Husson H-Stop to create a series of safe. pedestrian-permeable routes and public spaces so that people can mill about and enjoy the many food stalls, attractions and other wonderful sights, without having to worry about a hostile vehicle incursion.

While the Surface Guard deployments will be in-situ until the festival ends, the H-Stops can be moved, safely and conveniently stored and then re-deployed easily to allow for greater flexibility in our HVM plan for the City, should the need arise.
